So last year to try promote Limerick City the National Lottery and St Patricks Festival brought the wonderful Skyfest to our beautiful county. Seeing as Limerick City wasn't getting the best media coverage and many people weren't tempted to visit the place this event came to try liven up the place, and that it did!
It took place on the 13th of March 2010 where a kaleidoscope of colour from the fireworks were seen being left off from King Johns Castle. The beautiful castle and the River Shannon were the canvas for this magnificent array of colours! It took a long time for such an event to be planned and surely cost alot too, i cant even imagine how much! But what i do know is that 1.5 tones of fireworks were used, now thats alot!!
I stood watching this spectacular event take place in Arthurs Key Park surrounded by thousands of people from far and near. The buzz from the crowd arround me was amazing, i had never seen Limerick so alive! The event began at 6:30 with brief entertainment from the Galway Theatre Group Arcana. The dj from the radio station 2fm, Jenny Greene provided us with the music while the fireworks were being displayed.
The media coverage for Limerick City was amazing as RTE had recorded every minute of this event and were going to show it on air at 7 pm. This ment that people who could not be apart of this event could still be involved by watching it on tv.
King Johns Castle is such a landmark in Limerick that it was the perfect place for this show of fireworks to be displayed. Pains Fireworks created the show and they did a very good job :)
€20 million euro was made, thats an amount of money that i'll never see in my bank account! Overall it was a fantastic night for Limerick City and i hope it encourages people to come visit some time soon :)
